Baking that teaches, one bite at a time. The Cake Batter Cookie Pucks Baking Kit brings together everything a young baker needs — pre-measured ingredients, real kitchen tools, and step-by-step guidance — to bake a soft cake-batter cookie, shape it into a puck, and coat it in a hardened white chocolate shell. Every step is designed to teach the science, math, and engineering hiding in your kitchen, making it a hands-on lesson as much as a delicious result.

A hands-on STEM learning project for grades 1–12 (ages 6–18)

The Cake Batter Cookie Pucks Baking Kit turns the kitchen into a classroom. Because a recipe is essentially a set of chemical formulas and engineering blueprints, this kit doubles as a full STEM project:

  • Science – phase changes in melting and setting chocolate
  • Technology – using a silicone mold to shape and bake
  • Engineering – building a hardened shell around a soft center
  • Math – measuring corn starch ratio and colored sprinkle proportions
What Students Learn
  • Corn starch's tenderizing effect — blending corn starch into the flour interferes with gluten formation, the same trick professional bakers use to make cake flour. It's why these bake up soft and cake-like instead of crisp like a standard cookie.
  • Melting & setting chocolate — melting white chocolate and letting it re-harden around the baked puck is a real phase-change experiment: solid to liquid and back to solid, with cocoa butter crystals reforming as it cools.
  • Two-leavener lift — baking soda and baking powder work together to puff the puck into its signature domed shape.

An included insert explains all three scientific principles in more depth.

What's Included
  1. Keepsake recipe card — step-by-step instructions, illustrations, a featured ingredient with a description of its role in baking, and a professional baking tip
  2. QR code — links to additional pro tips/techniques and a full video tutorial guiding students through every step
  3. Kitchen tools — relevant to the specific bake
  4. Pre-measured, non-perishable ingredients
Built for Every Skill Level

The video tutorial helps younger or more novice bakers move through the recipe at their own pace, while older students can work independently and reference the video only as needed. No baking experience is required — difficulty flexes across the age range, making it a practical fit for multi-age and multi-grade households.

Kit includes:
  • Recipe card with easy to follow step by step instructions
  • 3” Round silicone baking mold
  • Piping bag
QR Code:
  • Instructional videos
  • Shopping lists
  • Tips, tricks, and much more…
Pre-measured Ingredients:
  • All Ppurpose flour
  • Corn starch
  • Baking soda
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Granulated sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Cake batter extract
  • Coconut oil
  • Blue food coloring
  • Colored sprinkles

The Science Behind This Bake

What They'll Actually Learn

S
Science

Chocolate phase change

Melting white chocolate and letting it set again is a hands-on lesson in solid-liquid-solid transitions — the same chemistry behind why chocolate seizes if it's rushed.

T
Technology

Technology: The silicone mold

Baking every puck in an identical round mold keeps thickness and bake time consistent across the whole batch — precision tooling, not guesswork.

E
Engineering

Engineering: A shell around a soft center

Coating a tender cookie in a hardened chocolate shell is edible structural engineering — a rigid outer layer protecting a soft interior, the same principle as an eggshell.

M
Math

Math: Tenderizer ratio

Corn starch is measured against flour in an exact ratio — too much and the dough won't hold together, too little and the texture turns tough.

What's in the Box

Every Material Has a Job

From Parents & Educators

Trusted for Screen-Free Learning

"My daughter didn't just bake a tart — she explained to me why the crust held its shape. That's the kind of retention worksheets never gave us."

Ren, homeschool parent

"I use this as a hands-on unit for food chemistry. Every kid remembers gluten formation after they feel the dough change."

Mr. Alvarez, 6th grade teacher

"Screen-free and she asked to do the math herself when we doubled the recipe. Sold."

Priya, parent

Questions worth asking

Ask these about us, or about anyone you're comparing us to. We're confident in our answers.

Designed for grades 1–12. The core recipe works for younger bakers with adult help; the Science Insert content is written to flex across a 1st–12th grade reading level.

Yes, this kit uses an oven and requires melting chocolate on the stovetop or microwave. We recommend adult supervision throughout, with kids leading the measuring, mixing, and science observations.

Yes. This kit qualifies as an educational material under most state ESA and microgrant programs — a receipt and standards-aligned description are included at checkout.

Same recipe and ingredients as our classic kit, plus a Science Insert card, grade-aligned learning objectives, an educator/homeschool guide, and STEM-specific tools.

The science in each kit

Not "learning through baking." Actual biology and chemistry.
