Baking is school.
Crumble Crate is the curriculum.

A graded STEM project in a box for students in grades 1 to 12. Real chemistry, biology, and physics your student can measure, build, and taste. No baking experience needed.

Why it's a real STEM project

Every recipe is a set of chemical formulas and engineering blueprints.

Most kids' baking kits are a fun afternoon. These are a graded science lesson your student can actually log. Here's the STEM in every kit.

S

Science

Chemical reactions and biological processes they can watch happen: baking soda releasing carbon dioxide, yeast fermenting sugar into gas, cream whipping into a stable foam.

T

Technology

The tools of a working kitchen and why each one changes the result: the scale, the thermometer, the mixer, the oven as a controlled heat source.

E

Engineering

Every bake is an edible 3D build. Laminating a dough, structuring a roulade that won't crack, piping a buttercream that holds its shape.

M

Math

Measuring, ratios, fractions, converting cups to grams. The math is load-bearing here. Get it wrong and the bake tells you before you do.

1–12

Grade-leveled

Each kit is labeled by grade band. Difficulty flexes across the age range, so a multi-grade household can work the same project at different levels.

+

A written science insert

Every kit includes an insert explaining the exact scientific principles behind that bake. It's the piece that turns a recipe into a lesson you can record.

The science in each kit

Not "learning through baking." Actual biology and chemistry.

A few examples of what a student works through, and the grade band it's built for.

Grades 3–12

Blueberry Knots

Biology · Fermentation

Living yeast converts sugar into carbon dioxide and ethanol. The trapped gas leavens the dough while the acids build flavor and texture.

Grades 3–12

Cookies & Cream

Chemistry · Emulsification

Ganache is an engineered emulsion. The right ratio of hot cream to chocolate binds fat and water into a smooth, glossy set that holds.

Grades 6–12

Apricot Clouds French Pastry

Chemistry · Physics

Gluten development, steam lift, osmosis when rehydrating the apricots, and starch gelatinization in the pastry cream. One bake, four principles.

What's inside every kit

Everything a student needs to run the project.

+

A keepsake recipe card

Step-by-step instructions, illustrations, a featured ingredient explained, and a professional tip for that bake.

+

A QR code to the full video tutorial

Pro techniques and a complete walkthrough. Younger bakers follow along; older students reference it only if they get stuck.

+

The kitchen tools for that bake

The specific tools the recipe calls for, so students learn the equipment as they use it.

+

Pre-measured, non-perishable ingredients

Everything portioned and shelf-stable. Open the box and start, no shopping list.

+

A science insert

The written explanation of the chemistry or biology behind that bake, ready to read, discuss, or log.

+

No experience required

Built for first-time bakers and seasoned ones. The difficulty flexes with the grade band.

How we're different

Not a fun activity kit. A graded STEM project.

Plenty of kids' baking kits are entertainment with a learning label. Ours is built to hold up as science.

Fun activity kits

  • — Entertainment first, learning as a label
  • — One difficulty, no grade levels
  • — "Teaches science" with nothing to show for it
  • — You supervise a craft

Crumble Crate STEM kits

  • + A graded project for grades 1 to 12
  • + Real chemistry, biology, and physics with a written insert
  • + Built to log for homeschool and charter records
  • + ESA-eligible in Texas and Arizona

For scholarship families

In Texas or Arizona? Your ESA may cover it.

We're an approved vendor in both state scholarship programs, so eligible families can pay with their education funds through ClassWallet.

Buy a STEM kit with scholarship dollars, not out of pocket.

Crumble Crate is listed with ClassWallet in Texas and Arizona. Many homeschool and charter families use their education funds for hands-on STEM tools like ours. Your program account confirms what's eligible, so check with your coordinator before you buy.

Approved states: Texas and Arizona only. Live elsewhere? You can still order any kit directly and use code SCHOOLTIME.

What parents tell us

Common questions

What parents usually ask us

Each kit is a grade-leveled project with a written insert covering the chemistry, biology, or physics behind the bake. Many homeschool and charter families log it as science, plus math for the measuring and life skills for the technique. Whether it counts is set by you and your program, not us. We give you the material to make the case.

Every kit is labeled by grade band, from grades 1–12 up to grades 6–12 for the harder pastries. The difficulty flexes across the age range: the video tutorial walks younger students through at their own pace, and older students can run the project independently. It's a practical fit for multi-age, multi-grade households.

None at all. Ingredients come pre-measured, the recipe card walks through every step, and a QR code opens a full video tutorial. A first-time baker and a seasoned one can both work the same kit.

Yes, in both states. Crumble Crate is an approved vendor in the Texas Education Freedom Account and Arizona Empowerment Scholarship Account programs, and both pay through ClassWallet. Eligibility for any specific purchase is set by your own program account, so confirm with your coordinator before ordering. Families in other states can order directly and use code SCHOOLTIME.

We love co-op orders. Email us directly before ordering and we'll talk through what makes sense for your group. We've set up bulk arrangements for several co-ops and it's always worth a conversation.
