How to perfectly zest a lemon?

Here's a pro tip on how to perfectly zest a lemon. My tool of choice is a microplane grater. Use the sharp side of the microplane grater. Gently run the microplane along the lemon skin. Only run the grater in one direction. Bits of the lemon zest are starting to collect in the grater. This is the part of the lemon you want to use in your recipes. You don't want to waste a single drop. One lemon in general will get you about one teaspoon of lemon zest for your recipes.
